An Omnipresent Mental Model
THE HERO'S JOURNEY, a blueprint of existence. It's a framework that can be applied in every situation, depending on the level of resolution used when viewing. It is continuously cycling. Flowing. Evolving.
The 3 act structure resonates through the fabric of existence, a fundamental truth of being—as old as nature itself.
The universe has a hero's journey; your life has a hero's journey, your career, your relationships, even your day. I've found learning the different stages of the hero's journey particularly enlightening and valuable when navigating uncertainties in my own life.
The Monomyth (as it's also known) teaches you how to see. Once you learn the tells at each stage of the journey, the entire world changes in front of you. You can see the fabric of life in a profoundly new way.
You can feel confident while making difficult decisions even amongst the crippling ambiguity of a complex situation with no seemingly right answers.
When I decided to leave my career as a Score Mixer—I could tell that I had come to the end of my journey. I had reached the precipice, and I was facing the innermost sanctum sanctorum of my fear. I was fighting desperately against myself for the future of my life.
When I realized the only way to reconcile my current situation was to leave. I was able to use the omnipresent structure of the Monomyth as a road map—giving me the confidence to move forward and to know that I was making the right decision.
When I decided to leave, that was the conclusion of my Ordeal; I had reached the Apotheosis of my story. It gave me the courage to believe that I was making the right decision—leaving a Master of the Two Worlds.
